Parent Email, 8/21/23

Parents/Guardians -

Weather:
We are aware and concerned about this week's weather and its impact on our after school activities. We anticipate changes (cancelations, postponements, etc.) throughout the week. Coaches will communicate directly with their parents and teams. Thus far, Thursday's cross country meet has already been postponed one week until Aug. 31. Regardless, athletes will be instructed to and given time for extra water breaks.

PTO:
Here is the link for signing up for PTO activities. Please take a look! We have several great events that need parent support.

AI: Also, below is an email I sent out to students today regarding AI (artificial intelligence). Teachers will be talking with students throughout the school year as we begin to navigate how to effectively and honestly navigate and utilize all the new AI software programs becoming available.

Students: Using AI (artificial intelligence) in education has become a very popular topic. We know that AI has great potential to expand opportunities for learning and add convenience to your everyday life. However, we also know that AI has some significant downsides, especially when it comes to academic dishonesty. The following videos have been made specifically for Morton students to help you navigate AI and also share with you the procedures that your teachers are implementing in order to promote conversations around your work.

ChatGPT is blocked in the district because it asks for personal information when registering for an account, not because it is inherently evil. However, there are hundreds (thousands?) of other large language models otherwise known as AI.

It is imperative that you watch these videos and ask questions to seek understanding.
