School Safety Update, 1013/25
Tonight, we want to provide an update regarding the situation reported on Saturday evening.
After a thorough assessment over the weekend, we have determined that the information reported to the administration was not credible. Therefore, school will operate under normal conditions on Tuesday. Please know that we take all threats seriously, as the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. Following consultation with local authorities, we are confident that the matter has been fully addressed. If you have any questions, please contact the MJHS Principal, Chris Carter, or the MCUSD 709 Superintendent, Dr. Joe Sander.
We want to emphasize two very important points to all parents/guardians and students.
Prompt reporting is essential in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students, highlighting the importance of “If you see something or hear something, say something.” This can be done by contacting the school immediately or completing an online form for reporting bullying, suspicious activity, threats, or concerns about student self-harm. The form can be found under the “Parent” tab on the district website at www.morton709.org. Once submitted, the school and district administrators are notified immediately, and response actions are initiated.
We also have a dedicated team of counselors, social workers, school psychologists, administrators, and a School Resource Officer available at any moment to support students and their families through difficult situations.
We also want to thank the Morton Police Department and everyone who had a part in resolving this situation.
Sincerely,
Chris Carter
Joe Sander
