Counseling Connection

Each week the counseling department will send out an article, podcast, or video designed to connect you with insights about technology, emotional health, or career pathways related to your teen.   Teens and sleep: 7 tips to help your teen sleep better at night Sleep often takes a back seat to teenagers’ busy activity and social calendars. But what they may not realize is just like exercise and nutrition are important for healthy bodies, so too is a good night’s rest. “ Teens are going through puberty and rapid body changes, and still growing and developing in a lot of important ways,” said Kristin Lambert-Jenkins, MD, an adolescent medicine specialist at Akron Children’s. “Sleep is crucial for brain development, and physical and emotional health.” While sleep needs vary from teen to teen, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends teens aged 13 to 18 get 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night. Meet the Teacher Night parent email, 8/13/25

Parents / Guardians, Welcome to the new school year!  We sincerely hope everyone is having a great start to the new year.   Tomorrow’s Meet the Teacher Night is from 6:00-8:00.  Parents will follow their student’s daily schedule, spending 10 minutes in each class to hear from each teacher. We encourage everyone to bring their student's schedule.  We recommend using the PowerSchool App. If you need the schedule, please stop in the office, and we will gladly print one for you.   Everyone will start in the Kiln (new gym) at 6:00 for a few brief remarks and then move to their first hour class by 6:15.  No worries, we probably won’t mark anyone tardy.   We hope to see you all there! Chris Carter Principal BTW - If you need to leave any medication at school, here is the form that needs to be filled out.

Parent Email, August 11

Parents & Guardians -  The first day of school is here!   It's been great seeing so many students stopping in these last couple of weeks getting their bearings straight and moving into their lockers. As I mentioned in last week's email, this year’s first day of school activities will be slightly different than those in the past.  This year, the entire student body will be participating in a building-wide orientation program.  Students will be meeting their teachers and visiting classes, but in a different format.   Please, students should NOT bring ANYTHING to school tomorrow.  Students should feel free to bring their school supplies on Wednesday.   Thanks! Chris Carter Principal

Parent Email, Aug. 7

Parents & Guardians -  The first day of school is rapidly approaching.  We are finishing up our summer maintenance and cleaning and will be ready for students on Tuesday, August 12.   Students are still welcome and encouraged to come into school tomorrow and move into their lockers, practice their locker combinations, and walk their schedule. This year’s first day of school activities will be slightly different than those in the past.  This year, the entire student body will be participating in a building-wide orientation program.  Students will be meeting their teachers and visiting classes, but in a different format.  There will be NO homework!   I would like to stress that students should not bring ANYTHING to school on the first day.  They won’t need their binders, folders, or boxes of Kleenex until the next day, Wednesday, August 13.   Thanks for all you do! Chris Carter Principal

Registration Reminder Email, 7/30/25

Parents & Guardians, Tomorrow is in-person Registration (7:00am-1:00pm) for anyone who prefers and for anyone who is new to Morton CUSD #709.  Student schedules are currently viewable in PowerSchool, along with locker number and combination.   Students are welcome to practice their locker combination and move-in any belongings they wish into their lockers any day after tomorrow between 8:00-2:00. All student accounts were assessed the Registration fee and an Activity fee in REVTRAK.  If your student is NOT playing a fall sport OR in a music class, you don’t have to pay the Activity fee right now. But if your student is in a music class or playing a fall sport, you will need to pay the activity fee during the registration process. The activity fee is a one-time fee, regardless of the number of sports/activities/music in which a student participates.      Below are the same links I included in my email earlier this month.
